Conditions Report: Hot Sun
The sun is out and the temps are high this week in Golden. There’s some great spring riding to be had but an expected spring avalanche cycle should keep everyone in mellow terrain with NO overhead danger. Avalanche.ca has rated the danger level as high for the weekend. Grooming ops will be affected by these ratings and we can only groom when safe to do so. It’s a good time to play it safe and not put yourself in big paths or danger.
And in other big news the Riley Suhan Invitation Race is ON! Mark April 6 on your calendars and sign up soon if you want to guarantee a spot!

Avalanche Conditions

From Avalache.ca on March 15: “Avoid being in or under avalanche terrain.
Intense spring sun and rising temperatures are making large natural avalanches likely.
Stick to low-angle slopes, avoid overhead hazards, and choose smaller objectives.”
Travel and Terrain Advice from March 15:
- Only the most simple non-avalanche terrain free of overhead hazard is appropriate at this time.
- Be aware of the potential for large, deep avalanches to run full path or even longer.
- A moist or wet snow surface, pinwheeling and natural avalanches are all indicators of a weakening snowpack.
- Cornices become weak with daytime heating or solar exposure.
