Conditions Report: Snow and Cold
Winter is swinging back this week in Golden BC with heavy snow and cooler temps. There’s approx 10 cms in the forecast and temps in the minus double digits. In other words, it’s time to get it good in a winter/spring blast! Avalanche danger ratings are forecasted to decrease from considerable to moderate on Thursday. Grooming operations continue to operate as planned. The days are getting longer and this could be an epic weekend.
And in other big news the Riley Suhan Invitation Race is ON! Mark April 6 on your calendars and sign up soon if you want to guarantee a spot!
****Accommodations: The Ramada in Golden is offering a rate of $109+taxes / night on Friday April 5 and Saturday April 6. Call the Ramada to book before March 22 to get this rate. Just say you’re coming to the Riley Suhan Backcountry Race and they’ll hook you up.***

Snow & Weather
SNOW AND WEATHER
It’s pretty good out there right now with a bunch of fresh lingering from past storms. There hasn’t been a lot of snow from the past week but the big avalanche warnings kept a lot of people away. There’s quite a bit of snow forecast for the next week and with colder temps, it looks like old man winter is coming back for another week.
Avalanche Safety
Avalanche Conditions
Check Avalanche.ca everyday you ride!
From Avalache.ca on March 20: “Very large persistent slab avalanches remain likely to human trigger, especially at treeline and above. Avoid steep, rocky, and wind effected areas where triggering slabs is more likely.”
Travel and Terrain Advice from March 20:
- Keep in mind that human triggering potential persists as natural avalanching tapers off.
- Avoid steep, rocky, and wind effected areas where triggering slabs is more likely.
- Be aware of the potential for large, deep avalanches to run full path or even longer.
- If triggered loose wet avalanches may step down to deeper layers resulting in larger avalanches.
- Cornice failure may trigger large avalanches.
