Summer 2015

SledGolden was hard at work this summer and is excited about the renovation to the Quartz Creek cabin including a new outhouse in Quartz Creek. All told, a new deck with a timber frame roof, new chimney, new tin roof, and a door that actually closes have been added.   The new outhouse a major upgrade as we abandoned the old system of dealing with barrels of waste in favour of composting.

We oversaw a serious brushing campaign on the trails into Gorman, Quartz Creek and East Quartz this summer. These trails were getting overgrown and so we mowed back all the alders to keep the trails wide enough for the groomer.

The British Columbia Snowmobile Federation advised us to raise trail fees to 25 bucks per day which is on par with Valemount, Revy, and Sicamous, and SledGolden is funneling all of the money back into improving the Golden snowmobile experience.

The Westbench Trail saw some upgrades this summer with some work being done to bridge a couple of soft spots on the trail that may lead to getting a groomer in there earlier this season.   If you are not familiar with the Westbench Trail, it is a family orientated 40km groomed trail connecting the Gorman Lake trail and the Quartz Creek parking lot.

Because of the incredible start to the season with almost 2 meters of snow already, grooming into Quartz is scheduled to start Friday November 20th. Make sure to bring cash for Norm at the ticket booth in the parking lot because he doesn’t take American Express or give air miles as there is no internet connection out there to run a debit machine. While you’re on www.sledgolden.com checking out conditions, feel free to drop us a line with questions or comments in the contact link at the top of the page.

If you are in Golden midweek, head over to the Riverhouse on Tuesday for toonie tacos, the fire will be raging outside all winter and kids are allowed to stay until 10 pm.

Cheers
Colin
