Conditions Report: Pre Season Update – White Peaks
Hello everyone! Welcome to the first conditions report of the W25 season. This is a pre-season update to let you in on all the comings and goings of the Golden Snowmobile Club.
No we haven’t been grooming yet. Yes, people have been out riding. Should you? Well, it’s still pretty early and it’s more of a novelty at the moment but if you’re dying to get out there and blow the dust off the rig, then it’s possible to do that. We’re sure our sponsor restaurants and hotels will be happy to see you if you come to town. We’ve heard reports of people in Quartz and Silent Pass. Gorman we imagine is still mostly impassable.
New Silent Pass Mobile Emergency Shelter /Warming Hut
We have exciting news. We are pleased to announce that we will have a new mobile cabin at Silent Pass this year. We plan to put the cabin near the end of the groomed trail and it will serve as a great warming spot on the Silent Pass ride. This year the parking lot is forecast to be at the 17 km, which means it will be a long ride in to the riding area this year. Having our warming cabin at the end of the trail should serve as a nice break spot. Check out this instagram video for more info.

Travel
TCH-1 Highway
Highway 1 is fully open east of Golden with NO scheduled stoppages and overnight closures. Nothing beats cursing at 100km/hr on the last 4 kms into town. The new highway shaves 10-20 mins off a trip from the east these days.
Snow & Weather
SNOW AND WEATHER
We’ve had a warm and wet fall. There’s currently no snow on the ground in town but around 1300m a white snow line is evident on all aspects. Realistically, you’re going to have a tough time sledding below 1500m but up top the peaks are completely white and reports of 1 metre plus of snow have been trickling down. There’s also 15-20cms of snow in the forecast with the temps cooling down.
Avalanche Safety
Avalanche Conditions
Check Avalanche.ca everyday you ride! The MIN Reports are a user driven information network where you can get up to date information.
From Avalache.ca on Nov 14 for Glacier National Park: “Fresh snow has been redistributed by strong to moderate wind creating wind slabs in exposed terrain. Watch out for thinly buried early season hazards such as rocks and logs.”
Travel and Terrain Advice from Nov 14:
- Be especially cautious as you transition into wind-affected terrain.
Grooming
Grooming
Grooming is not yet taking place in any of our managed areas. The low snow down low is limiting our ability to get after it but the hope is to get some track packing done late next week. Rest assured, we’re ready to go when the snow lets us get after it.
