Conditions Report: Variable Conditions Throughout the Weekend

It’s been a wild week here in Golden BC and snowmobiling conditions have ranged from deep blower powder to rain soaked elephant snot. Elevation is the biggest determining factor right now, as an ‘atmospheric river of warm moisture’ is upon us. Conditions are changing by the hour through to the weekend. Read on to find out the latest.

We’ve had approximately  25 cms of snow in the past week, followed by rain on Wednesday & Thursday. There’s 37 cms in the forecast for the Quartz Area before Tuesday morning.

Moisture, warm temps and a lot of wind mean the probability of avalanches is significantly increased.   Please continually check  http://www.avalanche.ca/  if you choose to venture out.

Quartz Creek

Conditions: Good early season sledding - deep powder and packed powder depending on temps and elevation.
Grooms scheduled: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday evenings (Nov 23-25)
Fees: $25 Nov 24, and on.
Parking: Please park at main lot. The parking lot is clear with a skiff of snow on it.
Additional notes: Quartz Creek full trail was groomed on Nov. 20th (Monday evening) all the way to the cabin. Creek crossings are now filled in with snow.

Gorman Lake

Conditions: Powder and packed powder
Grooms scheduled: none
Fees: $0
Parking: no data
Road: ROAD IS A SHEET OF ICE! Chain up or you won't make it.
Additional notes: We’ve had limited reporting out of Gorman. Traditionally, it takes longer for Gorman to fill in than Quartz or Silent. Road is very icy to get to parking lot.

Silent Pass

Conditions: Alpine has been really good early conditions, approach is experts only
Grooms scheduled: none
Fees: $0
Parking: Parking at 17 km.
Road: Road is icy. Do not try to travel past the 17 km staging.
Additional notes: Silent alpine has been reported as excellent early season. The approach is still suspect. Word on the rumour mill is that we might have to groom from the 6km road mark from early December and on this winter.
