Conditions Report: Fall 2025 – This Season is Golden

We’re excited with the early season snow and several groups have been out sledding in Quartz already. Parking is at the 2km mark in Quartz and we’re within one big dump of getting grooming operations going.

Now is a good time to to pick up your W26 Golden Snowmobile Memberships online and maximize your value. Joining our club helps us in so many ways: it helps us with costs up front to get the grooming season going, but it also helps us apply for grants by proving how many people support snowmobiling in Golden.

We’re preparing for grooming ops this season with early season repairs on the cats and equipment. We hope to move equipment out to Quartz trailhead so we’re ready to go this week sometime!

Jeers: to the losers who broke into the Quartz kiosk by breaking a window and ransacking the place. Congrats on stealing absolutely nothing of value but making a big mess to clean up.

SNOW AND WEATHER

Predictions for winter 2025–2026 in western Canada suggest a mix of trends, with above-normal snowfall expected in many mountain regions due to a potential La Niña pattern. Other forecasts predict above-normal precipitation for southern British Columbia, which could also lead to more snow at higher elevations. Overall, the conditions may include a colder-than-normal winter in many areas, especially with potential cold Arctic outbreak.

Currently there’s 50-60 cms at the cabin in Quartz.

There’s not a ton of snow in the 5 day forecast but things do look to be picking up by the weekend.

Avalanches hazard may exist where there is snow. Pack a transceiver, shovel, and probe, and factor avalanches into your trip plan. Daily avalanche forecasts will begin November 26 at 4 PM.

People have been posting MIN reports and there has been avalanche activity already reported.

Additional notes: Most people are driving up the Quartz road and parking at the 2km gate.

Silent Pass

Conditions: thin

Grooms scheduled: none

Fees: none

Parking: 46km

Road: muddy - call your kms. A lot of industry traffic. Yield to bigger vehicles.

Additional notes: logging is happening above the 45km turn off to Silent Pass’s upper parking lot this year. We’ve been told this will happen till at least late February. This means that sledders heading to Silent should be able to drive to the 46km parking lot for most of the winter.
