Snow & Weather
SNOW AND WEATHER
There hasn’t been a lot of snow in the past week and there isn’t a lot more coming in the forecast. So it’s a settled spring snowpack that warms up when the sun hits it and freezes tight when it’s cold. The freezing level will continue to work its way up in elevation but for the time being, there’s still a ton of snow left to go shred.

“If a thick surface crust is present, avalanche activity is unlikely.
Buried weak layers continue to produce large avalanches that may run to valley bottom.” – April 11 on Avalanche.ca
Travel and Terrain Advice from April 11:
- Avalanche activity is unlikely when a thick melt-freeze crust is present on the snow surface.
- Be aware of the potential for large avalanches due to buried weak layers.
- Pay attention to cornices and give them a wide berth when traveling on or below ridges.

Quartz Creek
Silent Pass
Gorman Lake
Gorman has very limited chances for trailers to turn around. 4×4 trucks can park at upper lot. Still lots of snow up there and it’s possible to get stuck. Truck recovery gear is not the worst idea…
