April 14, 2017 Golden BC Snowmobile Conditions

It snowed again and snowmobile conditions in Golden BC are amazing. Yes we know that we sound like a broken record but if you’re thinking it’s a good time to put the sled away and to start playing golf, you’re going to miss out on the best conditions of the year.  Access to our zones is still quite easy and once you’re up high, you’re loving it.

Please always be careful but the weekend forecast looks promising.

Weather

Temps are staying cold and the sun is being cagey. That’s bad for goggle tans but perfect for preserving snow quality.

Riding Areas

Colder temps have been keep the trails in in pretty good shape but when it warms, they get bumpy fast. We will do our best to push around mashed potatoes for as long as we can.

Quartz Creek

Conditions:  Powder, Compacted powder.
Grooms scheduled:  groomed Wednesday and planned to be groomed Friday and Sunday this week.
Fees: Everyday  ($25/rider).
Parking:  Parking lot is dirt but the snow starts right at the pay kiosk and you can ride snow from there. Propane and firewood have both been restocked in upper cabin.  Please use conservatively.

YAHOO! It’s April 15th. That means Quartz just got about 5 times bigger….

Gorman Lake

Conditions:  Compacted powder, slush, sun effected snow, some preserved deep powder.
Grooms scheduled:  Groomed Thursday night.
Fees:  Everyday ($25/rider).
Parking:  3.5km lower lot is where we recommend big trailers to park. It means that you’ll have to ride a bit of dirt but there is no good turn arounds beyond the low lot.  We have tried to clear out a couple wide spots for parking further up for trucks with decks. The 14 km upper parking lot is still full of deep snow.
Road:    Expect the road to be muddy mess in the evening.  The Dogtooth FSR  is a steep, winding, mountain road with big exposure off the sides. By the time you realize you’re going too fast, it’s too late. The smart driver pops it in the 1st gear and let’s their engine do the breaking on the way down.  We’ve had 3 trucks off the road on the Dogtooth FSR (Gorman Lake access) this year.

Silent Pass

Conditions:  Powder in the shade (north slopes) and sun baked snow on south aspects. Everything in between on other aspects.
Grooms scheduled:  Groomed Tuesday night.
Fees:  Everyday ($25/rider).
Parking:  Parking is about 100m  after the McMurdo turn off at 46.5km. Try not to box anyone in.  Snow for the trail is right at the parking lot.
Road:  The last 6km of road are rutted ice lanes. Not that trailer friendly but many people have done it. The parking lot is cleared and is mostly dirt (and mud).

Please watch our road safety video.

West Bench Trail

Conditions:    A little bumpy but still good to go. Get out there and ride the trail before it melts out.
Grooms scheduled:  Will get flattened on March 31 as we take a cat from Quartz to Gorman.
Fees:  Everyday ($25/rider) payable at Gorman or Quartz trailhead.
Parking:  Park at Gorman or Quartz parking lot.
