Conditions Report: Jan 3 – Happy New Year

The holiday season has come and gone and now we move on to the rest of the winter. The snow taps look to be turning on again and there’s approximately 23+ cms forecast in the next week. Grooming ops are in full swing with all 3 managed areas getting grooms as needed. Avalanche conditions seem moderate/considerable through the weekend and temps are mild for the deep of winter. Mark March 28th on your calendar for the next Riley Suhan Backcountry Race.

Snow & Weather

SNOW AND WEATHER

After epic dumps all December the holiday season treated many riders to sunny skies and excellent travel days with great coverage. Most of the main zones have seen a lot of compaction and we’re ready for more snow. Luckily there’s approximately 20-25 cms forecast for the next week and we’re hopefully the general trend this month if for more snow.

Temps are swirling this week with a warmer than usual weekend and then cooler temps throughout the week.

According to AvCan’s weather resource:

  • An offshore low-pressure system and southwest flow drive active weather across southern BC and Alberta this weekend. Heavy precipitation is expected on the South Coast starting Friday night, and light to moderate precipitation is expected for the southern BC interior starting Saturday. This weather system makes its way into the Rockies by Sunday.
  • Cool and dry weather persists in the northwest of BC until active weather returns late Monday.
KHMR is reporting 540 cms of snowfall this season
