Conditions Report: Game On! Quartz To Be Groomed This Weekend

LaNina has been working her magic here in Golden BC and if everything goes right, we’ll be all systems go for grooms in Quartz this weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun). It’s a better than average fall and we’re going to optimistically call it excellent early season conditions.

Monday, November 16 in Quartz… there’s more where this came from!

Is it time to bring your novice significant other? Probably not. There’s still a lot of exposed creeks and features that are evident but it’s almost hard to keep your brain focused on your protecting your a-arms because deep powder carves are possible. You could say things have filled in real noice.  Snow depth at treeline is anywhere from 90-130 cms deep, depending where you probe and there’s a bunch of snow in the forecast.

Snow and Weather

Probably the best part about the conditions right now is the base, which is playing a very supportive role in our addiction to braaap. Often this time of year you sink to the bottom of the snowpack but that’s mostly not the case this year. Sure you can find a hollow spot in the trees if you try but overall things are pretty darn good. There’s also 40+ cms in the forecast right now and temps are staying cool, so yeah, that’s what we want to see.

Avalanche

All this hype about getting it good should be well tempered by the fact that if there’s enough snow to glide, there’s enough snow to slide. There’s a significant rain crust from Oct 31 and Nov 5, and with all the new loads things good start moving here. Avalanche Canada will start regular forecasts on Nov. 25, so until then you can keep your eye on their MIN reports. There’s definitely been avalanche activity in the mountains.

Grooming: Huge Thanks

We were really grateful for all the people that donated last weekend to ride. We’ve been pouring money in to getting our groomers ready to go and every little bit helps. We still have to button up some repairs and get the cat moved to Quartz but we’re hoping to be grooming by Friday night there. Let’s hope everything goes right.
