Conditions Report: Soft Opening Saturday!
The snow is starting to accumulate up high, but down low it is still fairly dry. We aren’t quite ready to groom the trails yet, as we need a bit more snow…but there’s definitely some sledding to be done up high, with CAUTION! We are pleased to announce that we will be doing a “soft” opening this Saturday (and maybe Sunday) at Quartz! We will have Staff at the Quartz Kiosk, where you will be able to buy or pick up your memberships for the season. We will also be accepting any donations that you’d like to make towards our grooming expenses for the season. With the addition of our “new to us” groomer, any additional support is greatly appreciated and will be put towards getting it into tip-top shape!
Grooming
We are planning to start grooming Quartz next weekend (November 19th), so stay tuned for next week’s report.
Snow and Weather
With the recent storms, we are starting to see the season coming into shape. It’s still early season conditions up there but it’s coming along. Watch the forecast this weekend for changes Sunday/Monday. It is possible that the freezing level will rise up to 2000m which may cause some less than ideal conditions early next week. Watch for updates on our “Webcams and Conditions” page. We’ve been having issues with the connection and batteries up there, so please be patient as we work out the kinks!
Highway Closure
The Kicking Horse Canyon project is in full swing. The canyon is closed until December, so you will have to go the long way to get here, unfortunately! Check the calendar here for regular updates: https://www.kickinghorsecanyon.ca/construction/calendar/
Avalanche
Just because it’s early season doesn’t mean things can’t get spicy. Please use every precaution when traveling in avalanche terrain.
Glacier National Park will be putting their first Avalanche Bulletin starting NOV 12. Check it out here: https://www.avalanche.ca/en/map
