Conditions Report: Let’s Get This Party Started!

Welcome to the first conditions report for SledGolden for the winter 17/18 season. In this report we will cover latest conditions, a grooming operations update and also fill you in with a few more news items. Thanks for supporting snowmobiling in Golden, we’re really looking forward to a great year.

We have been getting a lot of enquires about conditions for snowmobiling in the Golden area. We’ve had a couple of big storms, some cold temps and  some great very early season riding.

Snow
We have about 70 cms of settled snow accumulated in the alpine areas of the Dogtooth range (where Quartz and Gorman are). There was a big storm last week that brought almost 90 cms of  powder up high but  the accumulations were much less down low. This snow has settled out significantly over the course of the week. Currently in town there is a  small layer of white covering the grass.

Weather
Weather looks unsettled over the weekend with heavy snow loads coming in early next week. It’s colder than you think it’s going to be up high so make sure you dress warm if you’re going out. Always a good idea to be prepared for self rescue.

Grooming
Grooming operations have NOT started. We feel that we want to wait for one more big dump before we risk our brand new (to us) equipment. Subsequently, there is no charge to sled on any of the trails around Golden this week. But you can also expect that the trails will be bumpy and not maintained.

New Day Pass Payment Options.
Heads up! We will now be able to process Credit Card, Interact flash (tap debit only), Apple Pay, and cash for payment at our trail heads. We haven’t started charging yet, but when we do, we would prefer you pay with your credit card.

New Equipment!
Say Allo to our little friend!  We’re pretty pumped to have a new (to us)  2009 Prinoth Bison to groom Quartz Creek with. We executed a major purchase this off season and are really excited to have a high quality and reliable machine to groom our busiest area.

Additional notes:

The access to Quartz involves no less than 2 creek crossings that are between 6″ and 3′ deep. The trail in is not groomed and you can expect whoops. Sledding above the cabin is possible with good (very) early conditions. Approximately 70 cms of compact snow covers the bowls.
