Conditions Report: Sunny Times

Blue sky, reasonable temperatures and great snow are the trifecta needed to have a perfect day in the mountains and Golden BC has these ingredients in spades this week. Coming out this week is sure to make a memory. So this summer when you’re at the lake and chatting with your buddies, how about you fill in stories from your awesome week in late Jan 2019?

How it’s Been

Golden has been remarkably consistent the past couple of weeks. We haven’t had any huge dumps lately but we’ve been getting little 5-7cm resets and a lot of blue sky. In short, it’s been really great riding, exploring and adventure weather.

Snow and Weather

KHMR reported 20cms in the past week and we’ve had over 5 metres of snow this season!

Looks like sun, good temps and a bit of snow. Yup, perfect adventure weather.

You never really know how a day in the mountains will go unless you’re there, but Snow-Forecast.com can give you an idea.

Avalanche Conditions

Check out avalanche bulletins each time you go.  They’re updated daily and conditions can change quickly. If you can ride in the mountains you’re probably travelling in avalanche terrain. Please be careful and submit what you see to the MIN Network.

*Please note: GSC grooming operations are responsive to WorkSafe BC protocols for avalanche safety and working alone. This means the GSC grooming operations are under the direction of a professional avalanche forecaster, who, at times, applies limits to the terrain that the groomer can pass through and this may affect the grooming product. Please adjust your expectations accordingly. *

Quartz Creek

Conditions: Approx 220 cm of snow at cabin.
Grooms scheduled: Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Fees: $25 / Sled
Parking: Parking lot is cleared regularly
Additional notes:

Quartz has been awesome lately. Several little resets of snow over the past couple of weeks. Powder and packed powder in high traffic areas. Really good sledding when you can find untouched sposts. Great coverage.

PLEASE STAY OUT OF THE PARKS! Please don’t sled past a sign and in to the National Park. We got called this week from Parks Canada and they are going to up their enforcement in the area.

Gorman Lake

Conditions: Good coverage.
Grooms scheduled: Thursday / Saturday
Fees: $25 / Sled
Parking: 4km parking lot.
Road: Road is a little loose with soft snow, please use caution
Additional notes: Gorman has filled in nicely. The cold weather keeps the trail groom in good condition. Great powder in the bowls.

Silent Pass

Conditions: good coverage
Grooms scheduled: Thursday / Saturday
Fees: $25 / sled
Parking: At 24 km. Please park responsibly and don't snowmobile on the plowed road
Road: Please use radios on FSR. Channel is RR3 (150.140)
Additional notes:

Silent had a full groom on Sunday and is scheduled for others on Thursday and Saturday.

Logging operations are ongoing this year, currently up a spur off the FSR at 21 km. Therefore you can drive to the 24km parking lot but expect to encounter industrial vehicles nearly the entire way. Please review our road safety video and drive with care.

Summit Lake riders: The logging operation has cleared a small parking area about 2 km up the spur road at the 21 km.  Do not park at the normal parking at 21 km and ride on the plowed road.
