Conditions Report: CHRISTMAS CAME EARLY!
What a week it’s been and the party isn’t over! We’ve had over 1 metre of snow and there’s another half metre on the way. Of course heavy accumulations mean avalanche potential and it’s not exactly the easiest thing to perform grooming operations during storms like this but we’re doing our best. Please make note of the information posted below to make sure your experience is all it can be. Oh yeah, MERRY CHRISTMAS!
How it’s Been
It’s been a special week in Golden BC. The snow has been unreal! It’s been super deep, even in the most obvious and easy to get to spots. The sun has been cagey but there have been perfect moments when all things aligned for good.
Snow and Weather
We’ve had over a metre of snow in the last week! And there’s over 40cms more in the forecast! It’s been warm in town during the days but the alpine is caked with new snow.
You never really know how a day in the mountains will go unless you’re there, but Snow-Forecast.com can give you an idea
Avalanche Conditions
There’s been A LOT of avalanche activity lately; there always is when it snows this much. Please be careful out there. This is a time to be conservative.
Check out avalanche bulletins each time you go. They’re updated daily and conditions can change quickly. If you can ride in the mountains you’re probably travelling in avalanche terrain. Please be careful and submit what you see to the MIN Network.
*Please note: GSC grooming operations are responsive to WorkSafe BC protocols for avalanche safety. This means the GSC grooming operations are under the direction of a professional avalanche forecaster, who, at times, applies limits to the terrain that the groomer can pass through and this may affect the grooming product. Please adjust your expectations accordingly. *

Travel on Logging Roads
Please observe proper safety on the logging roads. Radio channel in Silent is RR3
Quartz Creek
Quartz has been deep! There’s also been a lot of avalanches. Get it good but play safe.
PLEASE STAY OUT OF THE PARKS! Please don’t sled past a sign and in to the National Park. We got called this week from Parks Canada and they are going to up their enforcement in the area.
Gorman Lake
Silent Pass
It’s been deep in Golden and word is it’s even deeper in Silent Pass. It doesn’t look like we will be able to groom until Saturday due to avalanche restrictions. So please plan accordingly.
Logging operations are occurring in up the FSR this year but not up the North Fork (where Silent is). Therefore you can drive to the 21km parking lot but expect to encounter industrial vehicles.
