Conditions Report: Beauty Blue

Golden received 20-30 cms in the past 7 days. Temps are forecast to be cool and there’s a ridge of high pressure, which can mean blue sky and sun will out.  There has been some recent high winds and much of the alpine snow reflects this.

Grooming operations are good shape with all grooming machines expected to operate this week.

COVID Protocol:

Nonessential travel is not recommend at this time for both BC and AB.  The latest orders, restrictions and advisories for Covid 19 are here for both BC and Alberta:

BC: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/safety/emergency-preparedness-response-recovery/covid-19-provincial-support/restrictions

AB: https://www.alberta.ca/enhanced-public-health-measures.aspx

The club has posted our COVID protocols here

Please advise yourself and abide by all provincial public health advisories. Sled Golden has a strong contingent of local members and participants and we are focusing on serving them during this time.

Snow and Weather

Seems like a good time to explore. The main areas have seen heavy traffic but there still lots of snow in them hills.

Avalanche

We’ve made up some new signs that will get placed at the trail heads soon. They are another reminder to keep avalanche safety top of mind.

Forecasts are saying “Conditions are more complicated than meets the eye. Wind-drifted snow and a buried weak layer warrant careful evaluation in specific areas.”

Please check https://www.avalanche.ca/ for all updated avalanche forecasts and check out the MIN reports for our areas.

Grooming

The cooler temps and reasonable snowfall mean things are back to normal in our grooming ops. We don’t expect any avalanche safety operating restrictions this week. We had a very busy weekend and so we added an extra groom at Silent on Monday. Somebody thought it would be a great idea drive up the Silent trail with their truck again. They made it 4km this time… is this a thing?  We’re working on making our groomer tracking software live to the public so people can see where and when the groomer has been operating. It might be a while but know that the wheels are in motion on this idea.
