5th Annual Riley Suhan Backcountry Race

The Riley Suhan Backcountry Race is one of the best events in all of snowmobiling. This unique mountain race traverses a large loop of the Quartz Creek riding zone and is executed in a relay format.

When: Saturday, April 6, 2024
Where: Quartz Creek (event to start and finish in front of Quartz Creek Cabin)
How Much: 120 spots will be open for public registration. All riders will pay a $150 registration fee which is non-refundable. Registration is OPEN!
Online registration is now closed. We can accept a limited number of additional entries.
Please come to the Bear and Bone on Friday evening or show up early to Quartz on Saturday if you want to ride.
Rider Meeting: Get a head start on Saturday’s activities. Come to the BEAR & BONE at 7:00 pm on Friday, April 5 to get your race number, meet team members, and be briefed on Saturday’s schedule. This is an optional event but it will make Saturday a lot easier for all of us.
Awards & After Party: No better way to celebrate a day well done than a burger and beer at the Rockwater. We’ve got the place booked from 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm and they have lots of tables, space and staff to serve you. Awards will start at 8:00 pm and more drinks and general good times will follow into the evening.
Race Day: Rider sign in at 9:00 am at Quartz Cabin. Preview lap of the course at 10:00 am for all riders. Start at 11:00 am, all riders finished by 2:00 pm. Note: schedule subject to change based on avalanche conditions.
Other Details
The course will be announced on the day of the competition, pending avalanche concerns and terrain stability. The course will form one large loop of the Quartz Creek riding zone.
Riders will be in teams of four and complete the course sequentially in order of the team’s choice. Riley will be choosing “team captains” and the remaining team members will be selected at random and announced at the riders meeting on Friday, April 5 at BEAR & BONE 7pm. We will do our best to make sure each team has one pro, one lady shredder and one snowbike and the rest randomly selected
Athletes may use ANY machine capable of making it through the course! RUN WHAT YOU BRUNG is the format.
Cash and Prizes: the top 3 teams will get a cash prize. Prizes will also be given out for fastest lap (snowmobile, snow bike, lady), fastest climb and for “Poz-itivity” (announcer’s choice).
Accommodations: The Ramada in Golden is offering a rate of $109+taxes / night on Friday April 5 and Saturday April 6. Call the Ramada to book before March 22 to get this rate. Just say you’re coming to the Riley Suhan Backcountry Race and they’ll hook you up.
